What Is a Professional Listener?

Most of us have plenty of people to talk to. Far fewer have someone who will simply listen — fully, privately, and without an agenda of their own.

Book a Listening Session

Undivided attention, offered as a service

A professional listener gives you something rare: an hour (or less) where your thoughts have room to land. There's no advice waiting in the wings, no opinion to manage, no story about how the same thing happened to someone else.

A professional listener is not a therapist, coach, or consultant. The work is simpler than that, and for many people more useful: to stay present, follow your lead, and reflect back what you're saying so you can hear yourself think.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do with a hard problem is say it out loud to someone who isn't trying to solve it for you.

Why being heard is harder than it sounds

Friends and family care about us, which is exactly why they jump in. They want to fix, reassure, or protect. Colleagues have stakes in the outcome. Leaders often have no one at all who can hear the unfiltered version.

A listening session removes all of that. What you say stays in the room. Nobody needs you to be okay, decisive, or consistent. You can contradict yourself, circle back, or sit in silence for a minute — and that is all part of the work.

How a session works

1

You set the topic

There's no intake script and no required reason to book. Start wherever you are.

2

I follow your lead

I listen closely, ask open questions when they help, and reflect back what I'm hearing.

3

Nothing to fix

You leave with no homework, no diagnosis, and no plan unless you choose to build one yourself.

4

Fully confidential

Afterward, your words stay private. They aren't shared, recorded, or used for anything beyond the session.

Who books a listening session?

There's no wrong reason to want to talk. People often come when they are:

  • Leading a team or company and carrying decisions no one else can see
  • Weighing a career move, transition, or major life change
  • Navigating grief, caregiving, a diagnosis in the family, or a relationship shift
  • Feeling isolated, even while surrounded by people
  • Wanting to think out loud before a big conversation
  • Simply needing a reset — a protected hour that belongs to them

For executives and professionals

The higher you rise, the more carefully people speak to you, and the more carefully you speak back. Board members, direct reports, and clients all hear a curated version.

An Executive Listening Session is a place to drop the curation. Talk through the reorg, the hire you're unsure about, the burnout you haven't named yet, or the idea that isn't ready for a slide deck. Clarity often shows up once the thought finally has somewhere to go.

Why a bodyworker listens differently

For years my clinical work has been hands-on — craniosacral, neural, visceral, and myofascial therapy with clients from newborns to centenarians. That work taught me how much people carry, and how often the body begins to settle once someone feels genuinely heard.

Listening Sessions bring that same quality of attention into conversation: calm, patient, and fully present, with no hands-on component. You simply talk, and I listen.

Listener, coach, or therapist?

Each has its place. Here's how they differ:

Common questions

Do I need a reason to book?

No. Some people come with something specific; others just know they need to talk. Both are welcome.

What if I don't know what to say?

That's common, and it's fine. We can start with how your week has been, and the conversation usually finds its own direction.

Will you give me advice?

Not unless you specifically ask for a reflection. The purpose of the session is your thinking, not mine.

Is this therapy?

No. Listening Sessions are non-clinical and are not a substitute for mental health treatment. If it becomes clear you'd benefit from a therapist, I can help you think through that step.

Can I book regularly?

Yes, and I warmly encourage it. Most clients find the greatest value in a series of sessions or a standing check-in. When you meet on a steady rhythm, there's less catching up to do and more room to go deeper. Trust builds over time, threads from one conversation carry into the next, and the session becomes a reliable place to set things down before they pile up. Single sessions are always welcome too, whenever you simply need space to talk through one moment.

Your time to talk

Be heard, fully.

Private, confidential, and centered entirely on you.

Listening Sessions are a non-clinical service and are not crisis support or a substitute for medical or mental health care. If you are in crisis in the U.S., call or text 988, or call 911 in an emergency.
